A typical 4 kW domestic solar PV system in Essex costs £7,000–£10,000 fully installed (with 0% VAT), generates around 3,400 kWh per year, and saves the average household £700–£1,200 annually. Payback typically arrives within 7–10 years, and panels keep producing power for 25+ years.
Costs are Subject to site survey. Prices vary depending on manufacturer equipment selected
Tired of watching energy prices climb year after year? It’s time to stop renting your power from the grid and start owning it. Lampern Renewables designs and installs high-performance, bespoke domestic solar PV systems across Essex, London, and Kent — turning unused roof space into a long-term, revenue-generating asset for your home.
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all systems. Our MCS-certified engineers carry out a full property survey — assessing roof orientation, pitch, shading from trees and chimneys, and your household’s actual energy consumption — before specifying the right array. Whether your home is a modern detached in Chelmsford, a Victorian terrace in Bromley, or a barn conversion in Sevenoaks, we engineer a system sized precisely for your usage and budget.
Solar panels reduce your reliance on grid electricity from the moment they’re switched on. Surplus power that you don’t use during the day is automatically exported back to the grid, and under the government-backed Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), your energy supplier pays you for every exported unit. Combined, on-site savings and SEG payments typically deliver a 7–10 year payback on a domestic system.
Before installation, an application must also be made to your local Distribution Network Operator (DNO):
Without a battery, surplus daytime energy goes back to the grid for a few pence per kWh. With a battery, you store that same energy and use it yourself in the evening — when grid electricity is most expensive. Pairing solar with a 5–10 kWh battery typically lifts self-consumption from around 30% to 80%+, and that’s where the real long-term savings come from.
Cut bills by up to 70%: Slash your reliance on grid electricity from day one.
Earn through the SEG: Get paid by your energy supplier for every kWh you export back to the grid.
0% VAT until March 2027: Domestic solar (and standalone batteries) qualify for zero-rated VAT.
Boost your EPC rating: A higher EPC band improves resale value and rental appeal.
25+ year lifespan: Quality panels carry 25-year performance warranties.
Lower carbon footprint: A 4 kW system offsets roughly 1 tonne of CO₂ every year.
A Lampern Renewables engineer visits your property to assess roof orientation, pitch, shading from trees and chimneys, and your annual energy consumption (typically taken from 12 months of bills). The visit takes 45–60 minutes and there’s no obligation to proceed.
Within 5 working days, we send a detailed proposal showing your recommended system size in kW, projected annual generation in kWh, expected savings and Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) income, payback period, and a fixed installation price. We also handle the G98/G99 Distribution Network Operator (DNO) application on your behalf.
Once you approve the design, our MCS-certified engineers complete the install in 1–2 days for a typical 4 kW system. This includes scaffolding, panel mounting, inverter installation, full electrical certification, and end-to-end system testing.
We commission your system, set up the monitoring app, walk you through how everything works, and issue your MCS certificate — the document required for SEG payments. We then help you apply to your chosen SEG supplier so payments start as soon as possible.
For most homes, no — solar panels are classed as permitted development. Listed buildings and properties in conservation areas are exceptions and may require consent.
Quality panels are warrantied for 25 years and typically continue producing 80%+ of their original output for 30+ years.
Yes. Solar PV generates from daylight, not direct sun. UK systems still produce around 30–50% of peak output on overcast days, which is why Britain has over 1.5 million solar homes.
SEG rates vary by supplier (typically 3p–15p per kWh). A typical home exporting 1,500–2,500 kWh per year earns £75–£300 annually.
