Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install EV chargers for businesses?

Yes, we offer commercial EV charging solutions and can help access the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) grant.

Can I install an EV charger if I don’t have solar?

Absolutely. Smart chargers like the Zappi or Hypervolt deliver excellent savings by syncing with off-peak tariffs even without solar — and they’re ready to integrate with future solar installs.

Do I need three-phase power for fast charging?

Only for 22 kW charging. Most UK homes have single-phase supply, which supports up to 7 kW — plenty for overnight charging. Three-phase upgrades are possible but rarely worth the cost for residential use.

How long does a 7 kW charger take to charge an EV?

A 7 kW charger adds roughly 30 miles of range per hour. Most EVs (40–60 kWh batteries) charge fully in 6–8 hours — comfortably overnight.

Can I get a grant for an EV charger?

The original homeowner grant (EVHS) ended in March 2022. The current EV chargepoint grant (£350) is available for flat owners and renters in England, Scotland, and Wales. We’ll confirm eligibility during your survey.

What’s the difference between AC-coupled and DC-coupled batteries?

DC-coupled batteries connect directly to your solar inverter and are slightly more efficient (best for new installs). AC-coupled batteries connect on the household side and are easier to retrofit to existing solar systems.

Will a battery power my home during a power cut?

Only if it’s configured with EPS (Emergency Power Supply) or whole-home backup. Not all batteries include this by default — we’ll spec yours to match your priorities.

How long do home batteries last?

LiFePO₄ batteries are warrantied for 10 years and typically deliver 6,000+ charge cycles, comfortably exceeding 12–15 years of daily use.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?

Yes. AC-coupled batteries connect to your existing solar setup without replacing your inverter — most retrofits take a single day.

How much can I earn from the Smart Export Guarantee?

SEG rates vary by supplier (typically 3p–15p per kWh). A typical home exporting 1,500–2,500 kWh per year earns £75–£300 annually.
